After retiring from professional life Andre immediately joined Abbeyfield Vlaanderen as a volunteer and soon was admitted as a member of the Board of Directors. In 2013 he was appointed Vice-President. Abbeyfield Vlaanderen is a NGO, not for profit organization, promoting and organizing co-housing for senior persons over 55. Abbeyfield in Belgium.

Andre has served on the board of The Abbeyfield Society, and no represents Belgium as a trustee of the Abbeyfield World Council.
